Vulgaris’ philosophy
Daring to be different in the name of sustainability. The only way forward is by braking with convention, changing they way we think about our interiors. Being honest in order to build reliability and longevity into our spaces. And using our rich history, both collectively and individually, to build a future that can last.
But what does it mean?
Vulgaris is latin, and if you are familiar with the latin names of plants or indeed in medicine, you have most likely also come across vulgaris, meaning common, normal, the usual variety etc. The term vulgar is also derived from latin’s vulgaris and was used by the aristocracy to describe the common folk, in time giving it its derogatory meaning. We at Vulgaris would like to reclaim the vulgar, the common and the normal showing that being uniquely you is the best way, common or not.
Rebelliously choosing to be nonconforming
A word from Ninni
I’ve been running businesses within the design field since 2013. The interior design space can be a very shallow place and finally I’d had enough. What the world need is not more stuff but a shift in mindset. How can we approach design and interiors with sustainability in mind? How can we reach a more holistic way of looking at design? Not as an isolated field, but as one part of a sustainable lifestyle as a whole.
What I have come to realize along the way, is that breaking with convention is the first step towards sustainability. The reason why it can be so impactful, is that it forces us to look at alternative solutions. Away from the readily available, mass produced and towards the handcrafted, small scaled and locally produced. Celebrating the community and the sense of interconnection, through passion and care that you would never get from a big box store. Daring to be rebellious in our choices, to be nonconforming even. Challenging the status quo of interiors from the same mold and instead experiencing our spaces in the full technicolor of diversity that the world has to offer. Unconventionally and unapologetically.
Join me to be inspired to brake some rules!
